Playing the Numbers
Game - Your Stats - by Kath Blackwell
Today's successful webmaster needs to know his stats and make
choices accordingly to the data found in his stats - as he will
surely live or die by those results. In order to make sure you
are taking advantage of all the opportunities and potential
success that might be coming your way - you will need to make
sure you measure the numbers that matter most to your business.
Weeding out the important information from the not-so-important
information is vital to taking a proper "temperature" of how
your site is doing... |

The "R" Word: Retention
- by Kath Blackwell
Everyone is always talking about how to get traffic, how to
get sign-ups and how to build doorway pages - but how often
do people discuss retention? Retaining your members, getting
them to sign up for additional months or 6-12 month packages
is the ultimate goal of any pay site owner, but for some reason
nobody is talking about it. Could it be that they don't want
to give out their secrets? Or maybe, this is an area where webmasters
and program specialists really need some guidance, but they
are all afraid to be the first to ask for help... |

NOW Are You
Going to Concentrate on Retention?!?
- by Kath Blackwell
On July 1st, 2003 Visa made yet another new regulation announcement
that caused some in the adult Internet industry to panic. Well,
D-Day is nearly here - as of October 1st, 2003, acceptable charge-back
levels for Sponsored Merchants will drop from 2.5% to 1% for
domestic transactions, and from 2.5% to 2.0% for foreign transactions.
If that isn't enough to bring the "Chicken Littles" of the industry
out in droves, screaming that the "sky is falling" - what is?...

Recurring vs. Per
Sign-Up - by Kath Blackwell
As an adult webmaster you have MANY choices available to you
with regard to the sponsor or affiliate programs you choose.
Just about every niche has been covered - every brand has something
for every niche - but choosing between a recurring "partnership"
setup versus a pay-per-sign-up program is often the toughest
decision to make. Weighing in on how much money you could make
up front for the initial sign-up as compared to how much you
"might make" on a recurring member can depend upon many different
factors. Like, how much money do you need... |

Sustainable Adult
Webmastery - by Brandon Palmer
Honesty is more than the best policy-it's the only policy, for
a webmaster who wants to build a profitable business and sustain
it into the future. What you heard first on the playground as
a kid remains true: "Cheaters never prosper." And, you do want
to prosper, don't you-or why bother? You do not see a lot of
formal information on business ethics in this industry, although
there's lots of talk on the boards. Why? There are two possible
reasons. One is, if you have ethics, then you do not need to
read about them. Or two, we are in the "Porn" business, so ethics
and integrity do not count.... |

Affiliate
for Success - by Brandon Palmer
Let's face it, the economy isn't what it used to be, and the
virtual gold rush of the 90's seems like a distant dream. In
this time of uncertainty, we all need to tighten our belts,
especially those of us working in the increasingly competitive
online adult market. Reducing business expenses is one approach,
but many webmasters already run a lean-and-mean operation. The
next step is to maximize revenue for your existing site, and
one way to do this is through the skillful use of affiliate
programs... |

So Many Programs, So
Little Time - by Kath Blackwell
Being an adult webmaster is basically a wide-open world of options
and opportunities. You can be your own boss or you can work
for a company. You can work with hardcore images - or stick
with softcore. You can choose to work with some funky new, virtually
unexplored niche - or play it safe with porn stars and vanilla
sex sites. Whatever you want to do - the industry is ripe with
opportunity for you to explore and succeed at whatever you choose.
Not unlike these other options that are freely awarded to adult
webmasters, sponsorship and affiliate programs are alive with
possibilities as well... |

Retention!
Retention! Retention! - by Kath
Blackwell
A Member who joins just for a short trial period, or cancels
after one month, is a thorn in the backside of webmasters. It
seems that the surfers of today are more skilled, cunning and
alert to any tricks in the joining of sites. They don't fall
for the 3-day trial deals as much as they used to, and they
KNOW how much a membership should cost and how much they should
expect to get out of it. But - growing, evolving, learning new
skills and adapting to the changing environment is what adult
webmasters do best. Here are some simple - yet often overlooked
- tips on how to keep your members recurring on your site longer...

How Good Are
You Really? - by Kath Blackwell
As affiliate program owners scramble to lower their charge back
ratios to 1% or under as a result of the new Visa regulations
that are to take effect on October 1st, 2003, new focus is finally
placed upon quality-versus-quantity with regard to membership
site content. So here's the million-dollar question - how good
is YOUR content - really? Let's be honest... do you fill your
site with content that will keep your members happy and recurring
for months to come - or do you just slap together whatever you
can find "for cheap," and hope that they won't notice?... |

The Power of
e-Customer Care - by Theresa Lütge-Smith
The company which can create the highest quality relationships
with its own individual customers will win those customers'
loyalty. These days, just about every customer is becoming an
e-customer; the Web gives them what they've always wanted -
a chance to express themselves, to get honest answers to their
questions, and to share their interests and passions with other
customers. Thanks to the Web, we now live in a "truth economy"
where people tell one another the truth about whether a specific
product or service is as good as its Web site says it is...

To Shave - or not to Shave? That is the Question! - by Suzanne Johnson
Throughout many cultures and religions around the world, great importance has been given to the quality and length of a man's beard. Historically speaking, not shaving one's beard has often been considered an outward sign of strength, stability and sincerity. So it is perhaps no great surprise that "shaving," when used within adult Internet industry circles, has come to mean the opposite...

Increasing Conversion Rates One Step at a Time
- Part 2 - by Bryan Eisenberg
Regardless of what they might say, typically 3 out of 10 people who are "shopping" online are actually "just looking." That means the remaining 7 are hoping to buy. It has been said, sales is a "transfer of enthusiasm." But with 70 percent of visitors looking to buy, you have to wonder why the average Web site closes less than 2 percent of sales...

Increasing Conversion Rates One Step at a Time
- Part 3 - by Bryan Eisenberg
Online sales would be easy if it were merely a matter of driving traffic to your site and presenting your product or service. But the equation is not so simple. One of the primary reasons is because people, consciously or subconsciously, go through a complex mental process before, during, and after making a purchase...
