So Many Programs, So Little Time by Kath Blackwell
Being an adult webmaster is basically a wide-open world of options and opportunities. You can be your own boss or you can work for a company. You can work with hardcore images - or stick with softcore. You can choose to work with some funky new, virtually unexplored niche - or play it safe with porn stars and vanilla sex sites. Whatever you want to do - the industry is ripe with opportunity for you to explore and succeed at whatever you choose.
Not unlike these other options that are freely awarded to adult webmasters, sponsorship and affiliate programs are alive with possibilities as well. There are just about as many different methods to making money with sponsor programs as there are sponsors - and that's saying a lot! Whether you like to get paid all in one shot or are looking for a recurring paycheck, there's a webmaster program that is right for you!
The best advice that a webmaster can receive with regard to webmaster sponsorship programs is that one size does not fit all and that you will need to try a few new things and options before you settle in to your own formula. Some webmasters make better money with pay per sign-ups and others swear by recurring - however, most webmasters will tell you that it's a unique combination of all programs that do the best overall. But we're getting ahead of ourselves here - first let's find out a little bit about each of these programs, what they do, how they are sold and most of all - how you can make money using them!
Per Sign Up
Probably "the" most popular and widely used Sponsor Program in the industry. Per Sign Up is exactly what it sounds like - webmasters get paid a flat rate for each sign-up to the sponsor's programs. Great for webmasters who want to "get paid now" for their traffic.
Per Trial or Free Trial
Basically the Per Sign Up model of affiliate programs, but the webmaster gets paid (usually at a lower rate than "regular" Per Sign Up programs) for each sign-up to trial or free trial memberships. Excellent for traffic that doesn't respond well to full-membership sign-up options.
Recurring/Rev-Share/Partnership
Whatever name you use to label it, recurring or rev-share or partnership programs are all the same thing. Webmasters get paid a percentage of the initial sign-up (typically 40-60%) and then receive additional percentage payments on recurring sign-ups from the same member. This is an awesome opportunity for webmasters who want to "invest in their future" and build a "partnership" relationship with their sponsors.
Per Click
Get paid for every click made on banners for your sponsor rather than getting paid based on sign-ups. Most of these programs have a conversion ratio requirement in effect to control the overall quality of the traffic sent to the programs. Good for TGP (thumbnail gallery post) or other mass quantities traffic that otherwise doesn't convert well with sign-up based programs.
Blind Programs
Similar to per click programs, blind programs pay you for every click made to their banners or text links. However, blind programs are just as they sound - "blind" - and because of this the value of the clicks and the traffic sent is generally not as good as that of per click or per sign-up traffic. Because they are lower in conversion value the payoff is lower - usually about one to two cents per click on average. Excellent for TGP or other mass traffic, non-filtered or non-targeted traffic sources.
Per Impression
Mainly used in mainstream e-commerce (non-adult) programs, the per-impression model is based upon the number of loads - or impressions - each sponsor banner experiences on your website. Again, the payoff is much lower than other programs, but this can be great for non-converting bulk traffic.
Email Programs
A great way to supplement your income, email programs pay webmasters on average $1-2 per free sign-up to a double opt-in email mailing list with niche specific content. Some programs are promoted as e-zines or online magazines and give opt-in surfers daily or weekly mailings with updates to the sponsor's programs. An excellent subsidized program to add to any website.
For Free Programs
Similar to the email programs, these programs pay about $1-2 per-free sign-up to "free membership" sites. Not to be confused with free trial programs, these sites cost the surfer or opt-in member nothing to join and off the member small doses of softcore adult content combined with lots of advertising to other pay-to-join programs. Another great way to subsidize your income on just about any adult website.
Dialers
Very hot in Europe and catching on in the US, dialers are a great additional option to give to your surfers to increase your overall odds of getting sign-ups to your programs. Dialers pay either commission, recurring or per sign-up flat rates depending upon the program. A good idea for webmasters who are getting International traffic and are using other sponsors who do not offer dialer options with their regular sign-up pages.
AVS (Adult Verification Systems)
Get paid per sign-up based upon the "level" you have achieved within the AVS programs. Recurring options are also available in addition to initial membership sales with most AVS sites. Gold, Platinum and other quality-based levels are also available to webmasters who are looking to make higher revenue with AVS. Said to be the "wave of the future," AVS programs are a great option for webmasters who are looking to put all "risky" content behind an age-verifying program or service --and a nice option to make additional sign-up revenue.
