The Summer Slump Cliché

It's just around the corner and before you know it - summer will be here. Long, sultry days on the beach, warm evenings out by the pool - weeks on end, spent trekking around on the country on vacation...

Sure, it sounds nice, but what do those summer months do to your conversion ratios? What happens to your bottom line as your customers are out ogling bikinis on the beach?

Uh, oh - it's the dreaded summer slump!

Calm down… and take a deep breath. Before you start to panic or consider closing up shop - let's stop for a moment and examine the situation logically. Just forget about the fact vs. fiction debate over the peculiarities surrounding the summer slump phenomenon and just consider it a reality.

Now that the hard part is over - accepting that it's true - you can move forward and face your fears, discover the cause of the problem and find some unique solutions. It's time to put this whole summer slump thing behind you, make effective changes to your current business model and find new ways to generate income while your members are out skinny dipping in the lake.

Taking the Slump Out of Summer!

What causes the typical summer slump that assaults so many American webmasters and businesses? In part, the blame is on those good old sun-shiny days. Those long languid days that beckon the strongest, most diligent hard-worker into cutting work early to frolic under blue skies.

The other part of the blame lies with you. No, I'm not kidding. It's all about your business model - the way you run those day to day things, the traffic that you market to, the things that you sell, the way that you market your wares. But don't worry… remember, I said it wasn't all your fault.

While it is true that the bulk of your typical adult content purveying traffic will be out enjoying the summer sun between Memorial Day and Labor Day, most webmasters forget one amazingly simple fact of life: At any given time, somewhere - someplace around the world - it's winter! That cold, freezing, beach-inhibiting winter season - filled with chilly winds, nights huddled around the fireplace - a place where summer is merely a distant memory of good times gone by. This is your NEW summer audience!

These are the people you want to target to keep getting the most out of your traffic and keep your numbers up to a decent level. Remember now - its not just the winter season that brings in good sign-ups - fall and spring aren't so bad either. So when we think about summer being our enemy, we need to remember that summer is only the current season in one hemisphere at a time. When you look at it from that global perspective, there are many things you can do NOW to ensure that you never ever experience a so-called summer slump again!

Targeting Other Countries

Ever play RISK when you were a kid? We're not after world domination here, but you do need to remember how to move in, take over and take control. You need to find out what your customers want, need and how they prefer to pay for it for each country that you target. It's not just about languages and kinky Euro fetishes - you need to learn about the culture, the popular topics and issues… simply put, you need to know what makes your traffic tick.

It might sound like a broken record, with all the internationally-based articles out there in the industry, but webmasters really need to focus on their global business expansion. There are programs available on the market that will help you to geo-target, filter and meet the needs of ALL of your potential customers - not just the ones that speak your native language. Make sure that you know where your traffic is coming from, what it "wants" - and find new and unique ways to give it to them. Finding out more about other countries, their online spending habits and their fetish or niche-based interests will help you to conquer the globe one country at a time.

Investigate new ways you can target and sell to surfers in other countries, take a peek at your traffic and see where it's coming from - then find an affiliate program or geo-tracking system that will help meet your needs and generate some new international income!

Hit Summer Head On - Build Summer-Friendly Sites

What is the real appeal of the summer season? Put yourself in the shoes - or flip-flops - of your consumer demographic. Why do surfers spend less in the summer? Why aren't they joining as many membership sites when the temperature goes up as they do when the marker drops closer to zero? Make a list - then take all of those elements and use them to build summer-friendly sites. Sites that feature summery themes and topics - like bikini babes, outdoors-type scenes, girls going wild on the beach - even reality-based sites featuring hot girls in summer outfits - these are the sites that will do well during those dog days of summer.

Make it fun - get your surfers into the "spirit" of the season by adding fun graphics, images and content sets featuring your girls bouncing a beach ball, sunbathing in the nude or dancing around a palm tree instead of a stripping pole - the ideas are limitless. Think about those summer fantasies you've had over the years and use them to your advantage by turning them into theme-marketing gold mines! Remember it's your job to capture the attention of your audience. Get them interested in what it is that you are selling, and then make the deal so utterly appealing and easy to complete that they sign up right away before even considering that it might not be what they really want.

Color is important too - use colors that make you think "summer" just by looking, and keep the text/dialogue light and fun. Make sure your web cam girls keep the summer theme going too - maybe have them lick a melting ice cream cone, cover themselves in coconut tanning oil, show off their tan lines or share their own summertime camp fantasies! You can go all out - or just add a few fun elements - the possibilities are endless and before you know it, your customers will get into the swing of things. You'll see the results in your paychecks!
