How long have you been working in the adult industry?
I started working in the Adult Internet Industry back in early 1996. At
that time, I had a free site called James and Victoria. My wife and I just
did it for fun. There were no pictures of ourselves, it was really just a
name. At that time, pay sites didn't pay for traffic. I put together an
email list of over 100 pay sites and begged them to allow me to advertise
for them. Only one person wrote back offering $1500/month to have
advertising all over the site. My wife and I thought we hit the big time.
Tell us a little bit about your experience and background. What areas
have you worked in?
After running JamesAndVictoria for a year, I took over the day to day
operations of the now defunct Ultracash. While running it, Ultracash
became the number 2 sponsor program on the net. After Ultracash, I started
a program called Jimsmoney. It only lasted 3 months because my ex-partner
decided to not pay me the money he owed me and Jimsmoney failed because I ran
out of money. I then became the Vice President of Marketing for
Cybererotica. And until recently, the Director of Marketing for
Flashcash. And now, my partner Greenguy and myself are running
GreenguyandJim.com.
How did the idea for GreenguyandJim.com come about?
Greenguy and I have talked about doing a resource site for well over a
year. When I left Flashcash, he said, "Good - now we can finally do the
resource site."
With so many webmaster resources out there already - why this one, why
now?
Having a large amount of webmaster resource sites is largely a
misconception by either competitors or people that have no idea what they
are talking about. Perhaps back in 1998, 3 or 4 resource sites might have
been enough. But today, there are so many more webmasters that need help, there
are not too many resource sites.
What makes GreenguyandJim.com different from other webmaster resources?
Greenguy and myself sat down and thought about what current resource sites
offer and what they don't. We thought about what kind of a resource site would we like to use and find actual useful information. Our site has real contests, Greenguy's world-famous stats, sponsor tryouts and a Help Desk that is designed to help webmasters having problems with sponsors. We like to say we have no allegiance to any sponsor. This site is for the
webmasters - not the sponsors.
How important do you feel it is for webmasters to network with other
webmasters?
When I started, the only networking done was via email. With resource
sites, shows, icq, etc. You have to get to know who you are doing business
with. The only thing we have in this business are our names. If you don't
get your names out there, you will never make a living in the business we
all love.
Will we be seeing you at any of the upcoming webmaster trade shows in
2003?
We have talked a lot about going to shows. I think the first we go to will
be in Florida. But after that, we will probably be at all of them. Again,
networking is very important. And when you can do it face to face, there
is nothing better.
The industry has changed a lot over the years - would you say for the
better or for the worse? Why?
In some ways, the business is for the better. And in others, its for the
worse. In the beginning, pictures were stolen all the time. The best
place to find content was on Usenet. But now, you either get free content
from sponsors or you pay for it - or you go out of business. As for it being
worse, there are too many scammers that make our industry look bad. And
way too many people that see people making money and decide that building a
website would be a nice hobby. If there is one thing I hate, its people who are in
this business as a hobby.
What would you like to see happen to improve the adult industry in the
coming months?
I would most like to see Credit Card processors stand up and say, no
chargebacks. The way it is now, any person that enters a paysite can say,
they either didn't get what they paid for or their child used their credit
card and boom, they get a chargeback. I would also like to see VISA and
MASTERCARD loosen the restrictions they throw at us every once in awhile.
If you could start all over again knowing everything you know now - what
would you do differently?
Get it in writing. :)

Jim is a multi-dimensional member of the adult Internet community. A veteran of the industry, Jim has played an integral part in the development and betterment of many different webmaster programs - raising the bar for all who follow in his path. His most recent venture - a webmaster resource site partnered with Greenguy, www.greenguyandjim.com has set the webmaster resource industry on its ear since its launch on April 1st, 2003. To say that Jim is a webmaster to watch is an understatement - he has much to give to the biz.
