Tip #20: Choosing a Domain Name Registrar
With the recent problems with people using GoDaddy as a Domain Registrar (see discussion), I feel the need to talk about who to use and who not to use.
First, for obvious reasons, I would stay away from Network Solutions. Besides being one of the most expensive out there, editing information is a big pain in the ass. And, I think everyone knows what they tried to do recently. If not, check it out HERE.
When choosing a registrar, look for a few things. First and foremost is the price. Never pay more than $15/year. Next, check out the ease of use. You may think now that your will never have to change your information but believe me, it will happen quite frequently. And one thing a lot of people don't do is, ask around. Talk to people about their favorite registrars. You will get a lot of different answers and you will end up having to go with your gut feeling.
In case you are wondering... my favorite Domain Registrar is DirectNIC. They have all the features I mentioned above and I know my domains are safe.
