Tip #38: Watch That Java!
Many web designers feel compelled to use the latest browser technologies to build their site (including DHTML, Java, Flash, etc.).
While these technologies can create some very impressive designs, they are not really appropriate for sites with a wide intended audience - because many users either don't have a browser that supports these features, or they may have these features turned off. Think carefully before adding these types of features to your site. If you can find a simpler way to implement your site, then use it. If you must use these features, then make sure that the main features of your site are still accessible even for people without these technologies installed on their PC.
Finally it's worth remembering that the most successful sites - like Amazon, and Yahoo! do not routinely use these advanced technologies - because they don't want to unnecessarily limit their audience. Are you sure that you want to limit your audience?
