Tip #8: "Make Navigation Simple"
While a lot of sites I see look beautiful, many of them are very hard to navigate. The average surfer will hit back very quickly if they can't find what they are looking for.
So, the trick is to make your site as easy to navigate as possible. No matter how you choose to setup your navigation, always remember to put text navigation links on the bottom of the page. If you use Buttons or Image Maps, make sure you use the alt text feature just in case they don't load properly.
One more thing. Check out your site with as many browsers as possible. It is next to impossible to check it with all browsers but remember, different browsers make your sites look different. While your site may look fine with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, it may not even load with a browser less used. Simply go to your favorite Search Engine and type in "browser" and you will have a fine list to work from.
